What is Strings of Hope?
The Strings of Hope Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to caring for pediatric burn patients. We provide financial assistance to support the treatment and activities of these children during their hospital recovery.
Who are we?
Strings of Hope was founded by Johnny Costello and Scott Klettke while they were undergraduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Other stringers and volunteers make up the rest of the team. You can see and read about them here.
Where does the money come from?
People like you; people that want to make a difference in the lives of young burn victims. Donations can be made directly or by having your racquet strung at one of our charitable racquet stringing events.
What is a "charitable racquet stringing event"?
Our tennis stringers donate their time and skills to local tennis clubs to string tennis racquets using donated string and equipment. The cost of stringing a racquet is a very reasonable $20 donation. Coincidentally, Strings of Hope gets its namesake from these events.
Where does the money go?
One-hundred percent of all donations go to support pediatric burn care in the event's local area. We currently support Riley Hospital for Children, UC Davis Children's Hospital, University of Wisconsin Children's Hospital, and Children's Mercy Hospital. Please let us know if you have another suggestion of a pediatric burn center that could benefit. Please visit our Donation page to see an up-to-date list of the hospitals we support. Strings of Hope consists solely of volunteers. There are no salaries. 100% of donations go directly to support pediatric burn care.
How will the donations be used?
Donations will be used to aid in the treatment and recovery of pediatric burn patients. Funds may be used to buy new toys or other "distractions" that will help ease the pain that these children experience during their recovery. The hope is that the necessity for strong medication will be lessened. We are also aiming to extend financial support to a local camp for pediatric burn patients that teaches the children how to deal with their injuries and allows them to interact with other pediatric burn victims. We will also be supporting a book specifically designed for pediatric burn patients.
How much money have you raised so far?
We are very thrilled to have raised over $2000. Thanks to everyone who has already donated!
How can I help?

I'd like to bring Strings of Hope to my area. What can I do?
Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm in helping pediatric burn patients. We are currently striving to make Strings of Hope a success in and around Wisconsin before we expand to other parts of the country. However, we'd love to hear from you regarding any ideas or suggestions that you may have. We look forward to the day when the Strings of Hope will be able to help patients throughout the country.
Are donations tax-deductible?
